Sean has over 18 years of experience in accounting and professional services including time with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Neuberger Berman and Riveron Consulting. Prior to Maple Tree, Sean held senior level positions with private companies, and was the Chief Revenue Officer and Finance Director for a global media solutions provider. Sean’s mission is to leverage his extensive technical background and pragmatic approach to provide clients with complete, accurate, timely and practical solutions to complex technical accounting and business process issues. Throughout his career, he has proven to be a business partner who can translate difficult concepts into ‘plain english’. During his time in client-service, Sean has led teams and projects of all sizes for public, private and portfolio clients. His experience covers numerous industries including technology, broadcasting and telecommunications, biotechnology, software-as-a-service (SaaS), cloud services, building materials and financial services.
As part of CCG, Sean’s practice focuses on providing clients with sound financial reporting and operational support, technical accounting, audit preparation, revenue recognition and technical accounting assistance. As the Managing Director, he is responsible for organizing, hiring, and leading teams of external consultants on financial consulting projects. Since forming CCG, he has dedicated significant time to assisting public and private companies comply with new technical accounting requirements, particularly the new revenue recognition accounting standards. His experience includes outsourcing and leading capable, cohesive teams of external consultants who make sure projects get done on-time and in a manner where on-going processes can be easily replicated.
Prior to forming CCG, Sean held senior level positions within private companies and a Big 4 audit firm. As the Chief Revenue Officer and Finance Director for a global media solutions provider, he worked hand in hand with all Executives and teams throughout several countries to execute needed improvements to revenue and related accounting processes. He was directly responsible for managing revenue accounting, deal analysis, forecasting, and led the successful implementation of a new revenue accounting system.
As a Senior Manager within the Riveron Consulting practice, Sean managed a team of consultants, providing contract review, audit support and revenue recognition support for a private equity media business customer. He helped his client successfully navigate through a first and second year audit after the client was purchased by a private equity firm and spun out of a corporate parent.
While serving as Senior Controller for a global fund services administrator, he actively managed the capital calls and distributions, monthly and quarterly reporting, financial statement preparation and auditor requests for several of the firms’ largest institutional funds, with several billion dollars of assets under management. He was instrumental in identifying improvements to the financial operations process with a team of direct and indirect reports to mitigate data inaccuracies and implement a new internal fund accounting system.
Sean spent the earliest part of his career working in the audit practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers where he quickly progressed to an experienced Senior Manager. He led highly successful audit teams, primarily within the Seattle, WA and Dallas, TX markets, ranging in size from very large public companies and mutual funds to small, private equity or venture-backed portfolio companies and hedge funds. Sean advised clients on complex accounting, financial and SEC reporting matters, provided technical training to large and small audiences, and presented in front of numerous Boards on many occasions. Throughout his entire career, Sean has proven to be a dependable, client-service oriented professional who seeks for practical solutions and produces quality deliverables and results. His ‘teach others how to fish’ leadership style builds trust and loyalty among his clients, teams and peers.
Sean believes his volunteer interests should extend to programs both in and outside of the office. He has organized, captained, and participated in various employer-sponsored service initiatives to give back to the community. He also enjoys contributing his time towards volunteer assignments with his church. His favorite volunteer activity has been as a Boy Scout leader, helping local cub scouts develop life skills and gain a true sense of accomplishment. Sean is an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America organization and is a self-taught Pinewood derby car-building expert, helping each of his two sons build multiple 1st place winning cars. Sean received his Master in Accountancy degree from Brigham Young University and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the state of Texas.
